What is National Youth Service Day?National Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world, engaging millions of young Americans and focusing national attention on the amazing leadership of young people. |
Saturday, April 22, 2006
The United Way of
Yellowstone County, AmeriCorps members serving at Montana State
University-Billings, and other MSU-B student volunteers participated in
volunteer events on National Youth Service Day (NYSD) in Billings April 22, 2006
from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Five projects prepared and submitted by youth from around Billings were selected
to be performed on NYSD this year. These selected projects were awarded funding
from the Volunteer Center of United Way of Yellowstone County on the basis that
they were youth-led and began, grew, or revamped youth service leadership teams
around the community.
The agencies that participated, along with MSU-Billings, were Big Brothers/Big
Sisters, Yellowstone AIDS project, ZooMontana, and Tumbleweed. There were
hundreds of youth involved in these projects from around the city!
The project that MSU-Billings participated in was working at the Conservation
Education Center with Yellowstone River Park Association. We were preparing
trees to be planted and watered, and digging trenches for irrigation systems to
be formed.
THANKS TO THOSE WHO PARTICIPATED!!We had 24 volunteers show up this year for NYSD! Thanks to everyone who came out and spent the day with us! |
