Welcome to the MSU-Billings Office for Community Involvement Website!  The Office for Community Involvement strives to provide students, staff, and faculty the opportunity to reach out and make a difference in the community through service.  Together, we can all make a difference and can help strengthen the bridge between
MSU-Billings and the Billings community.  The opportunities are endless and I hope you will take the time to explore ways that you can be an engaged citizen and an active participant in strengthening the Billings community and the MSU-Billings campus.  I invite you to stop by the office, SUB 222, and visit with the staff about the programs and opportunities available for you!!  Have a great year!

MSU-Billings Service Learning Coordinator

Dawn Hilsendeger

Hi!  My name is Dawn Hilsendeger and I am the Service Learning Coordinator on campus.  I am a former high school teacher and am so glad to be back in the education arena.  Service Learning is a concept that incorporates community projects in the course curriculum.  The possibilities of impact in our community are endless.  I feel strongly about the importance of community involvement and am so excited to be a part of the office that encourages involvement from students and staff alike.  I hope to encourage the development of many service learning courses as early as Fall 2006 and am eager to see the positive work our students can do in our community.

AmeriCorps Program Manager

Lindsay Blackburn

Hi!  My name is Lindsay Blackburn and I am the Campus Corps supervisor for Montana State University-Billings.  After graduating from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota with an English Literature degree, I moved back to Billings to attend graduate school and join AmeriCorps. Serving a Campus Corps term in the Office for Community Involvement really opened my eyes to the needs of our community, and how students can make a difference in meeting those needs.  It also focused my career plans, as I soon realized that I wanted to work on a college campus for the rest of my life!  I recently received my Master of Education degree in Student Affairs, and I am excited about my new position in the Office for Community Involvement.  Let me know how I can help you find a place of service!

Team Leader

Maren Olsen

Hello!  My name is Maren Olsen.  I am the Team Leader at MSU – Billings where I am currently working on my masters to become a history teacher.  After graduating from
UM – Western in 2005 with a business/tourism degree, I decided that I loved college too much and I couldn’t stand the thought of making money or not having homework….or something like that.
:)  No, I really just decided that I need to be in a field where I am making a difference in a lasting sense. And so, here I am.  Besides that, I have traveled to over 12 different countries and just spent three months teaching English in Japan.  I love to sing and dance, play the piano and the guitar and pretty much just have fun.  I dream of being a singer/actress someday.  This is my very first experience with AmeriCorps and I am super excited for the year and to work with our team to “get things done for America”.
